Although Ludlow projects an
image of a wonderful little market town, it suffers from the same social
problems as many other places across the country.
Occasionally people slip
through the net, and find themselves with nowhere to go, no food to eat,
and no money in their pockets. Various agencies around the town work hard
to provide (temporary) accommodation, and they know that if a food parcel
is needed, then they should contact the Baptist church.
Members of the
congregation donate non-perishable foods such as tins of beans, pasta,
corned beef etc, as well as basic toiletries and some cleaning materials.
These are then packed up, and when a need arises, the package is usually
delivered within the hour. We don’t give money, we are unable to provide
clothes, but we are able to ensure that people who might have gone hungry
will instead be well fed for a couple of days at least.
