The (Local) Headlines!
During
the recent Euro 2004 football championships our church, working alongside
two other local churches, hired big screen equipment to show England's
matches. 'We thought we could put the matches on a big screen in a
family-friendly environment', quoted our soccer-mad minister. The
equipment, venue and refreshments were all organised with help from our
friends at the Living Waters Christian Fellowship and Elim Pentecostal
Church.

As Pastor Tim Coles from
the Pentecostal Church said, 'People often see the church as being out of
touch... we wanted to create an environment where families could come to
enjoy the football, knowing there wouldn't be any bad language or loutish
behaviour.'
The scheme was a great
success, with lots of support for every match. In fact things were so
successful that two local newspapers carried the story and even the Daily
Mirror contacted us!
On a more serious note,
the event has certainly helped to raise the profile of all three churches,
and hopefully it has helped to change peoples' perceptions of our church.
