For a number of years now, our church has supported
The Hope and a Future Trust (a Christian charity based in Shropshire) and
the work that it does in Guyana. To find out more about the work of The
Hope and a Future Trust (HFT) please click here.
This year we have a fantastic opportunity to
strengthen those links. In late October 2008 a team of people (some from
this church, along with other members of the community) plan to go to
Guyana to see some of the work the HFT is already doing, and also help
establish new projects.
We plan to visit a number of different areas in
Guyana, and support already established “sport diversion programmes”,
as well as setting up similar schemes in some of the poorest areas of this
country. To find out more about sport diversion schemes, and why are they
so important, please click here.
This is a very ambitious project, and we need lots
of help if this vision is to become reality. Part of the purpose of the
trip is to give away equipment that has been collected here in the UK, and
any donations (no matter how small) would be gratefully received. To see a
complete list of the equipment we are collecting, please click here.
A key part of this project is finances –
unfortunately the fact of the matter is that if we cannot raise enough
money, it isn’t going to happen! This would be a huge disappointment –
people in Guyana are already preparing for us to arrive, initial
arrangements are already being made, so we are trusting God to provide the
money that is needed. All money raised will go towards shipping costs,
air-fares, cost of inoculations, insurance and vehicle hire in Guyana. On
top of that we are looking to raise £5000 as soon as possible, in order
that a much-needed basketball court can be built. We are seeking to raise
funds in any way we can, but we will also gladly accept any donations. HFT
have set up a separate account for this project, so if you are able to
support us financially – either with a one off donation, or on a more
regular basis – please contact graeme@hopeandafuture.net
