10 THINGS NOT TO DO IN CHURCH

Back

You’ll probably be sitting on the floor.  Don’t sit with your legs stretched out, as the soles of your feet will point at somebody and it’s rude to do that. ( Nepal )

Don’t step across anyone’s legs if you need to walk through a group of people.  That is also considered rude. ( Nepal )

Don’t put your Bible on the floor, or put anything on your Bible.  This is a sign of disrespect for our Holy Book. ( Asia and countries with an Islamic influence)

Don’t invite the congregation to be seated after the final hymn and blessing.  This signals there is more to come. ( Albania )

Don’t sit next to your spouse.  In many parts of rural Asia most churches have men sitting on one side and the women on the other.

Don’t bring your shoes or prosthetic legs inside with you.  Leave them at the door. ( Nepal )

Don’t be surprised if dogs and pigs start wandering around. Cambodia – where everything is very relaxed!)

Don’t get up during the one-hour long sermon.  However, it is OK to chat with your neighbours, providing the noise-level doesn’t get too high. ( Nepal )

Don’t forget your passport!  Our mission personnel in Cyprus meet in a building in the buffer zone patrolled by UN troops.  That means they have to leave the country to go to church!

Don’t remind the congregation to turn off their mobile phones without having first checked your own! ( Albania )
