Sport
as diversion in Guyana
I
think it is true to say that not everything has gone according to plan! By
now we should have been and come back, and you should be reading about how
well it all went!
But
– as with many things – money is the issue. We have done extremely
well collecting sports kit, and have a lot of good quality equipment to
give away when we get to Guyana (though we are always on the look out for
more). The team is also starting to come together – it is smaller than
we first thought, with the plan now being that 7 people (including Graeme)
make the trip, 3 to coach football and 3 to coach cricket.
The
stumbling block has been the money, and we are still a long way short of
what we need. Money is coming in slowly, but only slowly, and we have had
little success in applying for money from outside sources.
But
major decisions have been made. The Hope and a Future Trust have sent
Graham to Guyana (he left on Mon 26th Jan for around 3 weeks)
and part of what he will do while he is there is confirm some of the
details of our trip with some of those we will work with.
We
are also planning to ship the equipment we have collected out to
Guyana
towards the end of February. Then some of it will be distributed, and the
rest we will give out when we arrive in
Guyana
in late October this year.
But
we could really do with more people praying more regularly for us.
Please
pray for Graeme, especially while he is in Guyana. Pray particularly for
health and strength – he has had a number of health problems recently.
Please
pray for the other members of the team – Richard, Jon, David, Stephen,
Russell and Rich.
Pray
that the money that we need to make the trip a reality comes in.
Pray
for those already working with the young people in
Guyana
– that they would have the strength and the patience and the courage and
the wisdom they need to carry on with the work that they are already
doing.
