EMERGENCY FOOD PARCELS
PARCELS
GIVEN OUT IN FEBRUARY – 1
Thank
You to everyone who continues to donate food and cash for this project as
it helps to ensure we always have enough in the store cupboard to meet
needs when they arise.
We
have recently written to all the churches in Ludlow to let them know how
many parcels we sent out last year (35) and to ask them to continue
supporting us in this scheme. We anticipate that there will be an even
greater need for parcels in 2009, due to the current economic climate, and
will soon be sending out an up-dated leaflet to all the agencies and
organisations in the area to make sure they know how to access all of our
Social Action projects.
We
have plenty of food in the store cupboard at the moment, and it has been
unusually quiet this month, but we’re sure this won’t last long!
YOUTH
CLUB
(Thursdays 6.00-7.30pm, 7.30-9.00pm)
The
Youth Club re-opened in February, after a well earned rest for the helpers
in January! Numbers have been lower recently but it will take a while for
the word to go around that we are open again, and the Youth Centre in town
is also open on a Thursday evening. However, smaller numbers do mean we
can get to know individual young people better and spend time with them on
a one-to-one basis, so please pray for the leaders as they build
relationships with them.
The
Youth Clubs currently offer pool tables, playstation and X-Box games
consoles, darts, ‘Giant Jenga,’ skittles, giant Connect 4 and other
occasional activities such as cooking, card-making and table tennis. It is
hoped that once the ‘computer room’ has been refurbished we will be
able to offer a wider range of activities, but this will mean that we need
more helpers!
Please
pray for the Youth Clubs and for the leadership team as they discuss
future plans for them at the next leader’s meeting in March. If you have
any suggestions or comments to make, please talk to Jon or a member of the
leadership team as soon as possible.
BABY CLOTHES BANK
PARCELS
GIVEN OUT IN FEBRUARY – 2
This
scheme is starting to be used by local organisations and we are seeing
about 2 boxes a month going out at the moment. We have plenty of clothes
for babies up to 12 months and a good selection of toiletries, but we need
more donations of ‘Sudocrem’ or similar nappy creams as these are put
into every box.
As
with the food parcels, the other churches in the area have been up-dated
about how this new venture is going, and we have asked for more donations
of knitted or crocheted blankets for cots and prams.
There
are many young families who find it difficult to afford the basics that
are needed for a new baby, especially if they are living in the Women’s
Refuge or homeless hostels when their children are young, so we know these
boxes make a big difference. Thank you to everyone who has generously
contributed to the baby clothes bank so far, your gifts are much
appreciated.
