EMERGENCY FOOD PARCELS

PARCELS GIVEN OUT IN OCTOBER – 5

The effects of the credit crunch are definitely being felt locally as demand for food parcels continues to be high. As usual, we have managed to meet every need and supply a food parcel when one is requested, but we need more people to sign up to donate items, or a small amount of cash, on a regular basis. This is such a well-known scheme now, and we anticipate the demand will remain high as winter approaches. THANK YOU to everyone who gives to this, the parcels are always appreciated by those who receive them.

We have recently approached the other churches in the town for more support and many donated non-perishables from their harvest festivals to help boost the stocks in the store cupboard.

Also, we are now looking for someone to take on the co-ordination of the food parcels scheme. If you could oversee the stock cupboard, check sell-by dates, fill spaces on the donations list and generally promote the project with other churches and local organisations – WE NEED YOU!!

Please talk to Jon or Liz if you can help in any way.

BABY CLOTHES BANK

BOXES GIVEN OUT IN OCTOBER – 2

We have (finally!) sent out new leaflets about the baby clothes bank and all of our other social action projects to the organisations working with vulnerable people in our communities.

The baby clothes have been re-sorted into 4 age ranges (0-3 months, 3-6 months, 6-9 months, 9-12 months) and thanks to the generosity of a few people we also have a good stock of toiletries and pram blankets. The word is now starting to get out about the baby clothes bank and we are hopeful that it will start to become more widely used in the next few months. Thank you to everyone who has donated in the last year.

YOUTH CLUB

(Tuesdays 7.00-9.00pm, Thursdays 6.00-7.30pm)

Both Youth Clubs have re-opened after a break in August and have gone well during September. The younger group on Thursdays regularly attracts 25+ children aged between 8 and 13 and we are really in need of more helpers!! They are very keen to cook on a more regular basis but we don’t have enough adults to make this happen very often – if you could spare a couple of hours on a Thursday to help us out please talk to one of the helpers (Jon, Liz, Jules, Linda)

The older group has grown slightly over the last month or so, and most come regularly and are keen to see the youth club continue. We still need to work out how to encourage some of those who aren’t catered for at the Youth Centre on a Tuesday to come along. Please pray for Jon, Stuart, Pete and Steve Jarvis as they lead this group.

LUNCH CLUB

The Lunch Club continues to go from strength to strength, with about 40 people regularly attending each month. Transport is provided and a lunch of homemade soup, bread and cheese, homemade dessert and tea or coffee is enjoyed by all. Again, more volunteers are needed to help make sure the lunch is enjoyed by all who attend.
